The black adhesive is called cutback and i installed ceramic tile over it without difficulty. You want to scrape off as much as possible using a razor scraper. You can t tile over old carpet glue but it s not hard to remove carpet adhesive before tiling. As with laying tile over vinyl as long as the subfloor and joists provide a firm foundation the linoleum is well glued down in good shape and clean.
